Intoxicated Detective’s Bad Casino Episode at Bally’s Twin River Casino

An off-duty detective became involved in a scandal at the Bally’s Twin River Casino that has damaged his career, resulting in both personal and professional consequences for the experienced law enforcement officer.

Local media outlet Target 12, part of WPRI, reported that detective Gary Slater visited the casino last October, where he became severely intoxicated and started displaying aggressive behavior.

Detective Verbally Abuses Casino Employees and Fellow Officers

An employee informed the investigating media that Slater expressed a desire to “kill everybody.” Slater was with family members during the incident, and they also attempted to calm the situation.

Witnesses reported that the detective threatened staff and declined to sign an eviction notice. The casino has permanently banned him following the incident, and other police officers were required to intervene to control the disruptive patron.

Despite being recorded by professional cameras, Slater continued to curse at the police officers who arrived to apprehend him. He questioned them, asking, “how many gun arrests do you have,” and muttered that “they” were “zeros,” without clarifying who he was referring to.

No Criminal Charges Filed, Yet Conduct Deemed Unethical and Immoral

A video reviewed by the media captured Slater and the arresting officers exchanging words. Slater disparaged his colleagues, implying that they had not achieved the same level of career success as he had – he yelled “twenty-seven years” in the arrest video.

The officers carrying out the arrest simply remarked that their fellow officer was a “disgrace to the badge.”

Following an extensive investigation, Slater was ultimately suspended; no criminal charges were filed against him, but it was determined he had been removed under “protective custody.”

Nevertheless, Slater will not be paid during his suspension. He has also entered a treatment program.
