Argentina bans Polymarket for unpermitted operations

(AsiaGameHub) –   Argentine authorities discovered that Polymarket, an online betting platform based on prediction markets, was functioning in the country without required authorization. The nation has now prohibited the platform’s operations.

The prohibition was initiated after Judge Susana Parada of the Buenos Aires Municipal Lottery (LOTBA), who leads the PCyF No. 31 court, filed a judicial complaint regarding the platform’s activities, prompting an investigation.

The Director of the LOTBA, Ezequiel Domínguez, explained:

Our technical teams initially identified the issue, which resulted in a formal investigation and eventually a judicial ruling.

Ida Lopez, president of the Association of State Lotteries of Argentina (ALEA), stated that the platform lacked proper legal authorization to operate in the country. The Argentine Chamber of Casinos, Bingos and Halls Annexes supported this action.

Consequently, access to Polymarket’s website and mobile application has been blocked across Argentina.

This measure makes Argentina the first Latin American nation to restrict a prediction market platform’s operations.
