(AsiaGameHub.com) – A judge has rejected MGM Resorts’ motion for a summary judgment in a legal case involving Dwight Manley, a real estate investor and one-time sports agent for Dennis Rodman. In his court filing, Manley states that he was served a spiked drink during a stay at an MGM-owned property.
Manley Alleges He Signed a Credit Deal While Drugged
Manley’s claims trace back to his visit to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in December 2021. An enthusiastic gambler and loyal MGM VIP client, Manley was a regular guest who was invited to stay at the MGM Mansion, a section of the resort with private suites and villas reserved for high rollers.
Manley says that on December 10, 2021, at around 1:45 pm, he ordered an Old Fashioned cocktail. He immediately noticed the drink tasted bitter, but finished it regardless. By the time he placed an order for a second drink, he had already begun to feel confused.
According to Manley’s account, he broke a glass ashtray and cut his hand, but received no medical help beyond a few band-aids. To make matters worse, he was offered a credit line of up to $3.5 million.
Manley ended up spending $2 million on blackjack before returning to his villa, where he passed out. The next day, Manley suspected he had been drugged. After seeing a doctor, he was told that it was possible he had been poisoned with ketamine.
The Case Will Proceed to Trial
In addition to previously offering a $1 million reward for anyone who can identify the suspected poisoner, Manley launched a lawsuit against MGM. His attorney, Paul Hejmanowski, says this is not the first time a guest has been drugged, and that a similar incident has allegedly happened to 11 other people.
MGM had filed the motion for summary judgment, claiming there is no evidence that the company or its employees acted improperly.
However, Judge Miranda Du rejected the motion, clearing the way for the case to go to trial. Du noted that the plaintiff has provided enough evidence to create a genuine factual dispute that the cocktail was spiked, and that Manley was already drugged when he agreed to the credit line increase offered by casino staff.
